This works all right. Need to strategically place it dead center on top and bang it down on the fruit, because the blade edges are not sharp enough.
Not sure if it saves any time, but at least it produces uniform pieces.

With its durable stainless cutting blade it slices easily through fruit to produce perfect wedges. It is available in Red or Black and is dishwasher safe.This fruit slicer cores and slices apples and pears into appealing wedges in just seconds. The simple gadget also greatly reduces the amount of time it takes to prepare fruits for pies or tarts, and is much easier to use than some of the more gimmicky coring/slicing contraptions out there. Equipped with a sharp stainless-steel cutting blade, the slicer fits over any apple with less than a 4-1/4-inch diameter and divides it into eight sections while simultaneously separating out the core.
