Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSC700GC 7-Quart Slow Cooker, Gloss Cinnamon RedCustomer Review: Bad Electronics Summary: 1 StarsI have had my KitchenAid Slow Cooker for over a year now - out of warranty of course. Now it randomly gets errors an error code flashes on the display AND STOPS COOKING. This can happen after a few minutes of being on or a couple hours into the cooking process. The first time it happened, I came home from work to find raw beef that was supposed to be chili.
I know for fact this is not due to power surges or power interruptions because I have been standing right next to the slow cooker when it happens. The last time I used it, about one hour in to the 8 hour cooking time, it stopped cooking (I heard the relay in it click off) and the error was flashing. I turned the knob to off and unplugged the unit. I plugged it back in and turned the knob back to the AUTO cook setting. Five minutes later it stopped cooking again - right in front of me. I again reset the cooker and it managed to cook for the rest of the day.
I don't use it at all anymore as I cannot trust it to stay on unattended. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of having a slower cooker. So I am now in the market for a new one and Consumer Reports highly rates Rival Crock-Pot SCVC604H-SS a best buy and also recommends the Hamilton Beach Set 'N Forget 33967. Care to guess who is at the bottom of the rating list? Yup, KitchenAid - really NOT what I would expect from this brand.
Customer Review: Kitchen Aid Slow Cooker Summary: 1 StarsI spent a fortune on this cooker and assumed it would last for a very long time. I have had it for two years. In that time, I have cooked many things and enjoyed the features of the cooker. However, approximately 10 months after I bought the cooker I noticed what appeared to be a food spill in the bottom of the unit that had no place being there. I thought I must have just been sloppy and not realized I had spilled something, cleaned up the spot and put the unit away. Used the cooker a few more times and noticed another spot in the same place. There was no reason for one to be down in the bottom of the unit. Upon further investigation, I discovered hairline cracks throughout the ceramic bowl that did not easily appear to the eye previously. I wish I had found the reviews of others telling of their problems with cracking of the ceramic bowl. The replacement bowl is $50 plus shipping. The unit was $129. It appears this model has a flaw that Kitchen Aid is not addressing. Many people are having the same problem. The other problem is that even on low it is extremely hot and everything cooks in less time. I am completely disappointed in the cooker for these reasons and will not be getting another Kitchen Aid. I would not recommend this cooker because of the bowl problems that Kitchen Aid seems to be refusing to correct.
Customer Review: Our pot CRACKED as well! Summary: 1 StarsUnfortunately we suffered a cracked pot like far too many others as shown by the reviews here. It was our 3rd time using it and I heard a loud pop or snap sound and found that the pot developed a 4 inch crack starting from the bottom up one side at a diagonal pattern. I'll be returning this shortly.
Customer Review: RUN as fast as you can from this product Summary: 1 StarsI bought this product in August of 2008 and have had it replaced twice since then. Each time my crock has cracked after only one use. Today it cracked again. Customer service is no help as they will only replace it with another unit. I would rather just have my money back so I can spend it on something else that isn't defective! I own 2 Hamilton Beach slow cookers that work wonderful.
Do not buy this slow cooker unless you love being on hold with customer service!
Customer Review: Believe the Negative Reviews Summary: 1 StarsAfter a tremendous amount of online research of many high and higher end slow cookers, I chose the Kitchenaid. Knowing full well of the "crock cracking" issues experienced by so many. Before purchasing from BB&B, I asked the manager what their return policy was. He stated "you can return anything you purchase from us at any time for any reason."
Feeling pretty good about that policy, I bought the Kitchenaid. Used it twice without issue and thought perhaps I was home free. On the third use, about 20 minutes into the cooking time, I heard a loud pop. I immediately knew what had happened. I turned the unit off and proceeded to transfer my pot roast dinner to a dutch oven. When it had sufficiently cooled, I rinsed the crock and examined it. Sure enough, there was a crack right across the bottom center of the stoneware.
The next day I returned it to BB&B - with no hassle whatsoever. While there, I purchased a Rival E-Lume slow cooker. So far, I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.
What really amazes me about the Kitchenaid is that the problem has been going on for so long and Kitchenaid hasn't resolved it. That tells me that they can have these things made so cheaply in China that it is still profitable for them to just continue to replace them. Where I believe they will eventually take a bigger hit is the Kitchenaid reputation. I've purchased about a half dozen Kitchenaid products over the last 7 years - from slow cookers to their top of the line built in dishwasher. I can tell you that their quality simply isn't what it used to be. If they don't care enough to resolve issues such as this, then they deserve whatever happens to the company.
Do yourself a favor and steer clear of their slow cooker.
