Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSB5MC 5-Speed Blender, Metallic ChromeCustomer Review: AWESOME...what's with all these competitors' SHILL reviews? Summary: 5 Stars
After my Krups died (lasted 4 years) I did a ton of research before I bought this blender, and in the end the choice was just too obvious: there is no other blender in this price range with this amount of sheer power, not even close.
The KitchenAid just blows away the competition from Cuisinart to Braun to Oster to Waring. It certainly was a night and day difference from my old Krups, which took about 3 times longer to do the same work (pureeing 35 oz of bananas and oatmeal with 5 oz of soy milk and yogurt). My sister has the Cuisinart 600watt model and it was also no comparison.
So what sold me on the KitchenAid, despite all the one-star single-reviewers? (NOTE: sure sign of paid shills, aside from the anonymous ones---only one review to their entire history or all their reviews praise one brand and/or attack another brand.)
1. Weight. Simple and consistent indicator of good quality in any electronic device (including speakers, receivers, etc.) is the sheer heft and weight of the thing---I went to a local housewares shop and simply lifted each and every display model. The KitchenAid easily outweighs all the others by almost double.
2. Blade. The KitchenAid's blades are bigger, thicker, and more multi-level than the competition's. Goes through everything in a jiffy.
3. Ease of pitcher movement: very easy to put the pitcher on the machine and take it off, zero twisting---just set it straight down.
4. Nice thick glass on the pitcher. Looks like you could kill somebody with the thing!
My dislikes:
1. Pitcher is only 40oz, my old Krups had a 50oz pitcher.
2. Plastic/rubber lid is kind of a pain to put on and take off, it's so darn tight.
3. I wish they would just have the simple flip switch controls that the VitaMix blenders have...without the VitaMix price tag, of course!
Now I have to say that I've only had this blender for about a month, but my neighbor has had his for two years and has never had the kinds of problems that many of the MYSTERY reviewers here claim, and the guy is a margarita fiend.
Hmmmm...could this just be a case of badmouthing the competition?
Description of KitchenAid KSB5MC 5-Speed Blender, Metallic ChromeThe Ultra Power 5 speed blender (model KSB5) from KitchenAid can crush ice at any speed. Powerful stainless steel blade chops vegetables, stirs, mixes, purees, and liquefies. Once you've used a KitchenAid blender, you'll wonder how you ever got along without one! Electronic mixing sensor automatically adjusts the power to your workload, and the metal base adds stability. Sturdy 40-ounce glass blender jar resists scratching common to plastic jars and is dishwasher safe. Capable of crushing ice and being pulsed at any of its five speeds, this sturdy, powerful, 575-watt blender provides ease-of-operation and versatility to a serious cook. It creates frozen drinks like smoothies and margaritas; chops nuts, coffee beans, vegetables, and chocolate; mixes batters and party dips; purées baby food and soups; removes lumps from gravy; and shreds cheese. Four cutting blades whirl at different levels for thorough work. KitchenAid's "step-start" feature automatically begins a process slowly to prevent splatters and quickly increases speed to the level selected on the touchpad control panel. The blender has a 40-ounce, dishwasher-safe glass jar with a drip-resistant pouring lip, a tight-fitting top. Removing the cap creates an opening for adding ingredients, and the cap is a 2-ounce measuring container. The blender's heavy metal base doesn't skid around on its rubber feet during operation and offers a cord-wrap underneath. Base and control panel wipe clean easily. The blender measures 7 inches wide, 15 inches high, and 8 inches deep and weighs 9 pounds. Its instruction booklet includes 75 recipes. --Fred Brack
