Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of KitchenAid KSB5 5-Speed Blender, Imperial BlackCustomer Review: Worked great for my family Summary: 5 Stars
I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews on here for this model. My family has had the KSB5 for about five years now and it has always worked quite well for us. Smoothies come out fine, ice is crushed into small particles without a fuss, and other frozen drinks come out smooth. The only time I have gotten significant lumps is if I've blended for too short a period (say 15 seconds or less).
I do want to thank other readers for pointing out the availability of an aftermarket "clutch" - our is still working fine but I guess that it will eventually age and break.
Description of KitchenAid KSB5 5-Speed Blender, Imperial BlackThis is the blender of the future. It performs all the traditional blending tasks (crushing ice for margaritas, thinning ice cream) plus it can be used like a food processor (mincing garlic, puréeing peppers). The wide jar is rounder and squatter than old-style blenders, which makes it easier to reach in and scrape the sides (when the blender is off!). To reduce splatters of strawberry daiquiri, the Step Start feature starts blending slowly, then picks up to the chosen speed. This blender also comes with a booklet containing 75 recipes--my favorite is the Frosty Chocolate Raspberry Latté. --Dana Van Nest Editor's Choice:KitchenAid's five-speed blender has a number of functions that set it above the crowd as our choice for best blender under $100. It starts with the five speed settings and the pulse function, which works at any of the speeds--a really nice touch. The blender's 40-ounce glass jar has a squat shape, making it more manageable than taller blenders, and comes completely apart.
