After yeas of use my Smoothie Elite Maker started to leak. After a lot of research and reading the reviews here I was able to purchase this KA at QVC for $79.95, including tax and S&H. I had a 5 easy pay coupon so I'm hardly going to notice I'm paying for it. It is noisy, but since it's on for such a short time that doesn't bother me in the least. I throw a lot of stuff in my smoothie - yogurt, oat bran, flax seed, along with lemon and orange juice, liquid vitamins and a cup of frozen fruit. It pulverizes everything in seconds and is as good if not better than the old Elite smoothie maker. (The new Back-to-Basics Smoothie Elite model is $74.99 here plus $20 S&H - receives 2 1/2 stars - looks just like my old one - with so few stars no way I'd get it now.) I cut and freeze pineapple cores to add to the smoothie and they come out of the freezer like rocks - the KA blender zaps them to smithereens. I don't use it to crush ice but the chop ice button automatically pulses and if the pineapple chunks are any indication, I would think it would get the ice to snow. I love the red and the simplicity of the 4 buttons plus the chop ice. I hated to clean the old Elite smoothie maker and this KA is a breeze. So far, so good.
