I was planning to purchase the 5 speed blender due to rave reviews but came across this 3 speed version on clearance for half price at another store. I'm really happy with this model and don't think I'm missing out on something spectacular by not having the 5 speed. I'm a basic blender kinda gal anyway--smoothies, hummus, salsa, and iced coffees are about as adventurous as I get, so 3 speeds have covered all my bases. I have had my fill of cheap blenders, and this one solved all the issues I had with other brands. This one locks in tightly so there have been no issues with leaking around the seal or dealing with the mad frustration of trying to get it aligned just right. As long as there's enough liquid, it blends the entire batch without my having to turn it off and shove cooking spoons down to the blades to knock the ice loose. It's easy to clean. Though the jar is glass and not the polycarbonate I was planning to buy, it's fairly lightweight compared to other glass blenders I've used. It is a very tall blender, but I'm not going to count that against it. I'm so happy to have a blender that crushes ice in my iced coffees that I'll gladly keep it on my counter. As for the noise, well, it's a blender with a powerful motor, so it doesn't purr, it roars, which is to be expected. I should have upgraded my blender ages ago instead of wasting money on a frappachino machine--talk about a gimicky product that doesn't blend anything harder than ice cream. I am thrilled I got such a good deal on this blender, but it is well worth full price, and I'd have no regrets if I'd purchased it at full price myself.
