Below is my updated review... below that is my initial review.
I did get an authorization from the company I bought it from to return it to them for replacement. They couldn't just send me the broken ring. They paid for return shipping and then shipped the replacement free of charge. The entire transaction was seamless and easy. 5 stars for the company selling these on Amazon.
Anyway .. I have my new attachment and have been using it happily for a couple months now! The "only" issue we found that could be re-engineered is the die plates. They are very difficult to clean. I did discover that they do come apart - more of a snap mechanism. They arehard to get apart but easy to snap back in place.
The critical thing that others have brought up over and over - follow the recipe exactly. I also found freezing and thawing the dough overnight helps it to dry a bit and absorb water so when you lay out the shapes they don't tend to stick at all.
I hope that KA comes out with new shape discs this year!
I ordered this item last week and it arrived yesterday. I was so excited - I had waited a year to make this purchase - reading about it and gaining confidence that YES I would be happy with my purchase. So last night I had the chance to put this to work for our dinner. I read the instructions. I made the "basic pasta dough" I followed the guide exactly. I put little walnut size doughballs into the hopper. I turned the mixer on slowly. Nothing. I pushed the dough further in and added more. Nothing happened. So I thought perhaps I had the mixer going too slowly - I moved it up a notch. And BAM! the bottom of the pasta press blew apart!!! That is right ... exploded. I ducked because pasta flew everywhere. I quickly turned off the mixer to survey the damage. Interesting the tightening ring that holds the extrusion disk onto the gadget had literally separated horizontally almost completely around. It looked like maybe it had separated at a seam but looking at the other side (inside) it didn't appear to have a seam. Also it is made of pretty thick (1/4 inch thick) heavy duty plastic. It doesn't make any sense that this would happen... so my machine part must be defective or just poorly engineered?
Anyway - naturally due to the breakage the entire item is now useless. I have contacted the company I bought it from (here on Amazon) and am waiting on their response. Thankfully Amazon offers A - Z guarantee.
I hope when (if) I get a replacement it works better and I can change my review.
