I have now used the KitchenAid mandoline slicer many times and truly appreciate the safety features that are built into this product.
It is sturdy and secure on the counter when being used - no rocking back and forth. Since the blades are very sharp (and cut through even hard veggies) it is comforting that the finger guard is substantial.
I love this slicer!

The KitchenAid mandoline slicer with its razor-sharp stainless-steel blades makes quick work of such repetitive, time-consuming tasks as making paper-thin cucumber slices, julienned (matchstick-cut) carrots, shredded cabbage, and grated cheese. This particular model is one of the safest on the market, with its retractable blade covers and good-size knob handle that keeps knuckles and fingertips away from the blade during use. The model comes with thick and thin julienne slicing blades, and the height of the blades also can be adjusted to vary the thickness of the slices.
