Loud, boisterous, irritating, dangerous....those are words I would have used to describe a blender before purchasing my KitchenAid (Factory Reconditioned) 5 speed blender. My mother used to have a blender she used all the time, an old Black & Decker, which she sadly still uses to this day. When she would turn it on, it shook, spit, and reverberated throughout the entire 3-story house. It sure blended things smoothly, but it had to beat the heck out of whatever was in there, and itself to do it.
This KitchenAid Blender is magnificient. I have used it every morning for the past month making myself and my wife a breakfast smoothie. By following the directions listed in the recipe/instruction booklet, I have been able to blend chunk-free smoothies over and over. Giant frozen strawberries, peaches, raspberries, and chunks of ice are no match for these blades, and my $40 investment is looking downright OUTSTANDING! The best part about it is that it gets the job done without all the noise. It's pretty quiet, and doesn't even wake up the kids when they're sleeping just around the corner. I can talk on the phone, have a conversation with my wife, or just relax and blend a nice smooth drink. Definitely a nice piece of equipment. Cleanup is easy, just rinse out, put some Joy Liquid in with some water, set it back on the unit, push stir---voila--clean pitcher. The lid is great, comes apart with a twist, rinses clean; dry, and you're good to go in under a minute and a half. I haven't made margaritas or anything with it, but as far as smoothies, and normal kitchen use--this blender is top notch. I highly recommend!

Capable of crushing ice and being pulsed at any of five speeds, this sturdy, powerful, 500-watt blender provides ease of operation and versatility for a serious cook. It creates frozen drinks like smoothies and margaritas; chops nuts, coffee beans, vegetables, and chocolate; mixes batters and party dips; purées baby food and soups; removes lumps from gravy; and shreds cheese. Four cutting blades whirl at different levels for thorough work. KitchenAid's "step-start" feature automatically begins a process slowly to prevent splatters and quickly increases speed to the level selected on the touchpad control panel. The blender has a 40-ounce, dishwasher-safe, glass jar with a drip-resistant pouring lip and a tight-fitting top. Removing the cap creates an opening for adding ingredients, and the cap is a 2-ounce measuring container.The blender's heavy metal base doesn't skid on its rubber feet during operation and offers a cord-wrap underneath. Base and control panel wipe clean easily. The blender measures 7 inches wide, 15 inches high, and 8 inches deep and weighs 13.2 pounds. Its instruction booklet includes 75 recipes. --Fred Brack
